(BOSTON) — Longtime Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek will announce his retirement in Fort Myers, Florida on Thursday, according to the Boston Globe.
The 39-year-old Varitek played for the Red Sox from 1997 until 2011, batting .256 with 193 home runs and 757 RBIs. He helped the BoSox win their first World Series title in 86 years in 2004 and again in 2007.
The three-time All-Star was named team captain in 2005.
