(WINDERMERE, Fla.) — It is no secret that President Barack Obama loves campaigning and loves basketball, and he combined his loves at another star-studded fundraiser, this one Thursday night.
About 70 guests gathered for the $30,000-a-person fundraiser with Obama at the home of Dallas Mavericks guard Vince Carter. NBA players past and present who attended were Magic Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, and Chris Paul.
“It’s a nice gym,” Obama said of the space in which the gathering was held. “Vince said he left the other side open in case I wanted to get in a dunk contest with him. I told him I didn’t bring my sneakers, so not tonight.”
“I’m here to tell them they are wrong about America,” Obama added referring to the Republican party. “Because in America we understand — yes, we’re rugged individuals. Yes, we don’t expect a handout. But we also understand we are greater together than we are on our own.”
President Obama headlined three campaign fundraisers in Florida.
