The 1.85-mile long ivory train was donned by Ema Dumitrescu, a 17-year-old model, and displayed Tuesday in pretty much the only way possible – flowing down from a hot air balloon floating over downtown Bucharest. This week, the Guinness Book of World Records officially named the train the longest one in the world, besting the previous record held by a Dutch designer.

Some 15,420 feet of taffeta, 18 feet of lace and 147 feet of lining were stitched together using nearly 2,000 sewing needles and 150 spools of thread to create the gown and train, according to The Telegraph.

The lace used on the dress was imported from France, while the taffeta and other fabrics were from Italy, the fashion house’s spokeswoman told the Associated Press.

The hot air balloon display was organized as part of Romania’s biannual Wedding Fair, held in Bucharest. Alin Caraman, a wedding fair organizer, told the AP that beating a Dutch designer in the record books  had an added political dimension for Romanians.

The Netherlands has opposed Romania’s entry into the European Union’s visa-free travel zone, and demanding Romania reform its justice system in order to enter that zone.

“If the Netherlands does not allow us into Europe, we’ll take them out of the world records book,” Caraman said.
