Brandon Jacobs Signs With the 49ers

Al Bello/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — The old saying goes “If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.” Still, former New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs is doing the opposite as he agreed to a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers.
Jacobs’ Giants team beat the 49ers in this past season’s NFC Championship game, but after he was unable to rework his contract with the Giants, Jacobs decided he’d rather play for the 49ers. Jacobs is the second former Giant to sign with the 49ers, the team signed wide receiver Mario Maningham earlier in the offseason.
This past season in a reserve role, Jacobs ran for 571 yards on 152 carries while scoring seven touchdowns on the ground for the Super Bowl champs.
Jacobs, who spent his first seven seasons with the Giants, will join a crowded 49ers backfield along with Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter. Even though the 49ers struggled with passing the ball in 2011, they had almost no problem running the ball.
The 49ers ranked 29th in the NFL in passing yards per game, but ranked eighth in rushing yards per game.
