Rangers captain Ryan Callahan celebrated his 27th birthday with an overtime goal that put the blue shirts past the Detroit Red Wings (44-25-5) 2-1 with his goal 2:42 into overtime.

“We’re starting to get our groove back,” Callahan said. “We’re starting to play how we want and how we were playing earlier in the year.  It was a good birthday gift.”

The overtime win gave the Rangers a three-point lead in the Atlantic division over the red hot Pittsburgh Penguins and pulled them a point away from the league leading St. Louis Blues.

Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist made 26 saves in the win.  New York (46-20-7) has nine games remaining in their regular season.
