(JUPITER, FLA.) — The St. Louis Cardinals are preparing pitcher Lance Lynn to start just in case starter Chris Carpenter is out a while.
Carpenter has a bulging disk in his neck and the Cardinals aren’t sure when he will return.
Lynn, 24, entered Spring Training in the bullpen, but was a starter throughout most of his time in the Minor Leagues.
Last season, the Cardinals gave Lynn his first taste of the big leagues. He made 18 appearances, including two starts, and had an ERA of 3.12. He also pitched in the postseason, appearing in 10 games while compiling a record of 2-0.
