(LOS ANGELES) — Tennis great Martina Navratilova has been bounced from the Dancing with the Stars ballroom.
Navratilova on Tuesday night became the first celebrity of the ABC competition’s 14th season to be eliminated. After host Tom Bergeron made the announcement, she said, “I gave it everything I had but I blew it [Monday] and it cost me unfortunately.”
Navratilova fell to the bottom of the leader board in each of the first two performance shows. Last week, she and partner Tony Dovolani danced the foxtrot, and on Monday she attempted the jive. Following the latter routine, head judge Len Goodman said her moves were “too neat” and “too precise.”
Navratilova had the lowest combined score of all of the celebrities: 37 out of a possible 60.
In the final moments of Tuesday’s results show, both Navratilova and pop musician Gavin DeGraw faced elimination. DeGraw survived and will return to the ballroom next week.
The musical guests were Matt Nathanson and Sugarland, who teamed up for a rendition of his song “Run.” Sugarland also performed “Find The Beat Again.”
Next week, the 11 remaining celebrities will perform a dance that draws upon a memorable moment in their lives.
