(NEW YORK) — In her Stay Strong documentary that aired on MTV Tuesday night, former Disney star Demi Lovato opened up about the physical and mental issues she’s suffering from, saying her fans — and her music — keep her on track.
Lovato underwent treatment in October 2010 for self-cutting and eating disorder issues, and the “Skyscraper” singer told fans she’s not out of the woods yet.
“I cannot tell you that I have not thrown up since treatment,” Lovato confesses. “I cannot tell you that I have not cut myself since treatment. I’m not perfect. It’s a daily battle.”
The star also admitted she had to stay on the phone with her addiction sponsor during Thanksgiving so she would be dissuaded from throwing up her meal. She hoped coming clean about her challenges would inspire other girls who may be going through her same issues.
Lovato, who found out she is bipolar, says her fans, and especially her music “give me a reason to live.”
“Every time someone asks me for a picture or an autograph, even if I’m having a bad day and I’m in a bad mood, I remember, ‘You’re nothing without this person,'” she said. “They make it special.”
