Florida State Claims First ACC Tournament Title

Thomas Northcut/Digital Vision(ATLANTA) — The Seventeenth ranked Florida State Seminoles (24-9) secured their first ever Atlantic Coast Conference basketball tournament title by beating the fourth ranked North Carolina Tar Heels (29-5) 85-82.
UNC trailed by 16-points at the half, but rallied to make it a one point game with 32 seconds left. With five seconds left in the game, Seminoles Senior guard Deividas Dulkys hit two free throws sealing the victory.
“We’ve worked very hard in the fundamentals offensively and defensively and the guys communicated very well,” Seminoles head coach Leonard Hamilton said. “North Carolina has a great basketball team. We expected them to make runs. I just wanted us to be mature enough to fight off some of those types of adversity. We’ve dealt with so much adversity that we don’t get rattled at all.”
The win helped FSU nab a three seed in the Men’s NCAA Tournament, where it will take on Saint Bonaventure Friday.
