(NEW YORK) — A former member of Joseph Kony’s child army told TMZ that Kony is a master of voodoo and may have willed an evil spirit to poison the mind of Invisible Children founder Jason Russell, TMZ reports.
Richard Akena, who was captured by Kony’s army four separate times as a child, told the entertainment news site that it wasn’t unusual to witness Kony trying to use voodoo magic against his enemies in Africa. Akena then said it may explain Russell’s erratic behavior last week, when he had a break down, while naked, in a San Diego neighborhood.
Russell’s family released a statement, attributing his behavior to “brief reactive psychosis,” brought about by exhaustion, stress and dehydration.
Akena, on the other hand, told TMZ that “This was Kony’s doing.”
