Brooks is being inducted in the Modern Era Artist category.  In a statement, he said he was “astounded and honored” to be chosen. He added, “At the same time, I can’t help but feel guilty going in when there are so many deserving artists that came before me who are yet to be inducted.”

According to the director of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Garth is receiving the honor because he’s taken the country music genre to “new venues and new heights, engaging fans with his unparalleled mix of showmanship, theatricality and musical talent, all while never losing sight of country music’s roots.”

Also being inducted this year are legendary singer Connie Smith, who’ll join the Hall in the Veterans Era Artist category and famed piano player Hargus “Pig” Robbins, who’ll be inducted in the category of Recording and/or Touring Musician Active Prior to 1980.

The induction ceremonies for all three will take place later this year in Nashville.
