Sources also said the finger may be dislocated but did not indicate how severe the injury is.

James hurt his finger during the first half and stayed in the game, playing 41 minutes, scoring 24 points and adding nine rebounds.

“I’ve still got work to do,” James said after the Heat’s practice Wednesday. “I’ll be ready. I hate using injuries as an excuse. If I’m in uniform, then I should be good to go. The only recovery for it, the doctors told me, was rest. And I think we all know I’m having none of that.”

The two-time MVP was already was playing through soreness in his right elbow and is shooting a career-high 53 percent this season.

The Heat will take on the defending NBA champion Dallas Mavericks on Thursday.
