Police arrested 40-year-old Cedric Steele on Tuesday night after recognizing his description when they spotted him in the Camp Bowie area.

Steele showed up to the senator’s office last Friday and this Monday, requesting to see her, police said. Davis was not there at the time. Steele allegedly told staffers at the office, “You’ll be hearing about me in the news soon.”

The man reportedly appeared again late on Tuesday and threw two firebombs at the glass doors of Davis’ office on the third floor. One staffer who was inside put out the waist-high flames with a fire extinguisher. Another staffer jumped over the flames to escape. Davis was not there at the time of the incident, and no one was injured.

Police do not believe the fire-bombing was politically motivated. They believe it was an isolated incident committed by a mentally unstable man.

Davis said on Wednesday that she is reminded of how vulnerable her staff is while serving the public, and is working with the Department of Public Safety to ensure that she is safe.

Steele is charged with arson and his bond is set at $50,000. He is currently being held at the Fort Worth Jail.
