Messi Makes Champion League History
Published at(BARCELONA, Spain) — Lionel Messi became the first player in Champions League history to score five goals in a match, as Barcelona pounded Bayer Leverkusen 7-1 Wednesday night. The defending champions will move on to the quarterfinals with a 10-2 aggregate victory.
Messi’s five goals came in the 25th, 42nd, 49th, 58th and 84th minutes of the match. It is his 17th career hat trick and first five-goal game of his career.
Messi now has 48 goals on the season for Barcelona, with 12 of them coming in the Champions League.
