Even though Tebow will just be the backup quarterback, the team had to hold the news conference in the team’s field house, which is something they’ve never had to do before. Over 200 media members were in attendance to see Tebow in person.

Despite the team’s willingness to hold the news conference, neither head coach Rex Ryan, owner Woody Johnson, nor general manager Mike Tannenbaum were in attendance.

“First and foremost, I’ve always said that I’m a football player first, and then a quarterback. But that’s alwasy been my dream and what I’ve wanted is to be a quarterback,” Tebow said, adding, “I’m excited to be a Jet and help this team in any way that I can in whatever my role is, and if I can expand that role, I’m going to try to do that.”

Both Ryan and Tannenbaum have made it clear that Tebow won’t just be holding a clipboard on the sidelines. They intend to use him in wildcat formations, but Ryan said Tebow could see up to 20 snaps a game.
