The Americans needed a win to advance out of Group A. Instead they tied El Salvador 3-3 and were eliminated.

It was looking good for the Americans. They took a 3-2 lead on Joe Corona’s goal in the 68th minute, and held that lead until the very end. The Officials added four minutes of stoppage time to the end of the game and at the 4:14 mark El Salvador’s Jaime Alas shot one past U.S. goalie Sean Johnson ending the game in a 3-3 tie.

With the win, El Salvador advances to the semifinal against Canada. The winner heads to London to play in the 2012 Olympics.
