Phillies Second Baseman Utley Leaves Camp
Published at(CLEARWATER, Fla.) — Philadelphia Phillies All-Star second baseman Chase Utley has left the team’s spring training camp to get his troublesome right knee looked at by a specialist.
“Chase’s rehab process has come to a bit of a plateau. He has made some strides but not enough to take the field,” Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said in a statement. “He is headed out of town for a few days to be evaluated by a specialist that has helped athletes overcome his issue. He wants more than anything to be on the field with his teammates and we believe that this is a step in that direction.”
Last year, Utley missed all of spring training and the first quarter of the season due to chronic knee problems. He hit .259 with 11 home runs and 44 RBI.
