Pregnant Woman Killed After Car Crashes Into Florida Hotel

The accident occurred Sunday afternoon at the Riverside Hotel near Las Olas Boulevard, a busy road in Fort Lauderdale, according to fire rescue spokesman Matt Little.

The seven-month pregnant woman was identified as Alanna Demella, 27, of Medford, Mass., by ABC News affiliate WCBTV.

Demella, who was with her husband at the time of the accident, had gotten up to use the restroom inside the cabana when the vehicle struck.  Her body was extracted by a fire department unit.

According to The Miami Herald, the fetus also died.

The driver of the vehicle, who has not been identified, was taken to the Broward General Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, the Herald reported.

Police in Fort Lauderdale are investigating the incident as a traffic homicide, Little told the paper.
