The tweets specifically targeted Lenny Kravitz, who plays Cinna, an adviser to Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss, and Amandla Stenberg, who plays Katniss’ young companion Rue. Both actors are black.

A Tumblr blog titled “Hunger Games Tweets” has drawn attention to the tweets. One tweet reads, “call me racist but when i found out rue was black her death wasn’t as sad #ihatemyself.” There are other tweets that cannot be republished here due to their insensitive nature.

The book on which the movie is based describes Rue as having “dark brown skin and eyes.” Cinna’s race is not disclosed.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, many of the Twitter accounts that published the tweets have been shut down.
