The game started off with a bang. After the opening faceoff there were three fights. Then 1:11 into the game, the Rangers Brandon Dubinsky scored the games opening goal.

This is the earliest the Rangers have clinched a playoff berth since 1992, when they did it on March 8.

“It’s definitely a foreign feeling. It’s not coming down to the last day,” Dubinsky said. “We worked really hard all year for this opportunity. We said from the get go the playoffs weren’t our goal. We want home ice advantage. We want to get in a good spot and put ourselves in a good position going into the playoffs. More importantly, we want to try and be playing our best hockey going in.”

The Rangers currently have 97 points, the second most in the NHL behind St. Louis.
