On Wednesday, Rangers general manager Jon Daniels spoke with ESPN Dallas 103.3 about those comments.

“I still don’t like the choice of words because it has a bad connotation, leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth,” Daniels said. “But I think hearing it in context, and then hearing it with what he followed up with, I understand a little bit of what he was trying to get across. I don’t think I would’ve phrased it that way.”

Shortly after making his initial statements, Hamilton clarified them by saying he owes the Rangers all his effort and focus for 2012 and added the first call he would make if he did reach free agency would be to the Rangers.

Daniels reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to try and keep the slugger in Texas for awhile.

“No doors have been closed, we’re still going to keep talking,” Daniels said.
