(FORT MYERS, Fla.) — For the second consecutive season, the Boston Red Sox have announced that lefthander Jon Lester will start on Opening Day.
“I’m excited,” Lester said Monday. “Kind of the same as I was last year, honored. It’s nice to know you are the first one out of the gate. It’s always exciting. It’s nice to get the first one out of the way as soon as possible so you can build off of that.”
The two-time All-Star has spent his entire six-year career with the Red Sox. During that time, he has compiled a record of 76-34 with a 3.53 ERA and 894 strikeouts.
Boston will open the season on April 5 in Detroit against the Tigers.
