(RALEIGH, N.C.) — Notre Dame guard Skylar Diggins recorded a triple-double to help lead the (1) Fighting Irish (34-3) to a 80-49 victory over (2) Maryland (31-5) to reach their second straight Final Four.
Diggins, The Big East player of the year, had 22 points, 11 assists, 10 boards and five steals.
With big games usually comes big pressure, but instead of denying it Diggins says she and her teammates embraced it.
“I think we felt the pressure,” Diggins said. “I think that we embrace the pressure. I think the expectations that others put on us doesn’t exceed the ones we put on ourselves anyway. We were very confident coming into this game, very loose, and you know it’s a game and we have fun. This team has fun with each other. It’s a great group of girls to be around.”
The game was never really close. The Irish lead 40-21 at halftime and never let up.
Next up for Notre Dame, Big East rival Connecticut, whom the Irish beat two out of the three times this season.
