(PITTSBURGH) — The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced they will release receiver Hines Ward.
The soon to be 36-year-old receiver has played all 14 of his NFL seasons with the black and yellow. Ward is a four-time Pro-Bowl selection and was named the MVP of Superbowl 40.
“This isn’t how I wanted this chapter of my career to end,” Ward said in a statement. “I did everything in my power to remain a Steeler and finish what I started here 14 years ago.”
Despite the fact he won’t be playing for the Steelers, Ward vows to play a 15th NFL season.
“I do feel that I still have more football left in me and I am looking forward to playing in the NFL, again, this upcoming season,” Ward said.
He finishes his career with the Steelers with 1,000 catches for 12.083 yards and 85 touchdowns.
