(SAN ANTONIO) — San Antonio Spurs guard T.J. Ford will be hanging up his NBA jersey for good.
He announced his retirement on Twitter on Monday.
“Basketball has been great to me & my family for 28yrs,” he wrote. “It’s official ‘I Retire from the NBA’ as of today.”
Ford has suffered a series of neck and spine injuries during his eight years in the NBA. The latest was a “stinger” that he suffered against the Knicks on March 7.
“I congratulate him on all that he has achieved as a player and fully support the difficult decision he was forced to make,” Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said.
Ford joined the Spurs on Dec. 10 and appeared in 14 games, averaging 3.6 points, 3.2 assists and 1.3 rebounds.
