On the hole, Woods at one point grimaced in pain and motioned for the medical team to come and check him out. After he left the course, Woods drove away with his caddie Joe LaCava. About an hour after Woods left the course, he issued a statement.

“I felt tightness in my left Achillies warming up this morning, and it continued to get prgressivley worse,” said Woods. “After hitting my tee shot at 12, I decided it was necessary to withdraw. In the past I may have tried to continued to play, but this time, I decided to do what I thought was necceasry.”

Woods initially suffered an Achillies injury at the Masters last year. He returned to golf about a month later, but because he rushed back, he admitted, he suffered a setback.
