According to ESPN, the Denver Broncos has traded quarterback Tim Tebow to the New York Jets for a fourth-round draft pick and a sixth-round pick in 2012. The Jets will also receive a seventh-round pick.

Tebow was made expendable by the team after the Broncos signed quarterback Peyton Manning earlier in the week. While several teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, and St. Louis Rams were all looking at Tebow, the Jets made the Broncos an offer they couldn’t refuse.

Tebow will serve as the backup quarterback to Mark Sanchez, who just signed a three-year, $40.5 million contract extension just two weeks ago. Behind Sanchez, Tebow will primarily be used as a change-of-pace player who will run the wildcat offense. Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano is considered one of the innovators of the wild cat offense, so Tebow would seem like a logical fit with the team in that sense.

After sitting on the bench the first five games of the season, Tebow took over as the Broncos starting quarterback and led the team to a 8-8 record, winning the AFC West Divsion as well as their Wild Card round playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Despite his winning resume, Tebow’s statistics last season weren’t particularly impressive. He threw for 1,729 yards with a 46.5 completion percentage as well as a 72.9 quarterback rating.
