Another Mel Gibson Rant Caught on Tape
(NEW YORK) -- Mel Gibson's feud with screenwriter Joe Eszterhas was pushed into the limelight Wednesday, when TheWrap.com posted a purported audio recording of a profane Gibson rant.
The recording was made by Eszterhas' teenage son while they were staying with other house guests at Gibson's home in Costa Rica last December, and was provided to TheWrap.com by Eszterhas.
Eszterhas says he decided to go public with the recording because "Gibson called me a liar. And I also have some reason to believe he’s creating a PR blitz questioning my truthfulness."
In the two-and-a-half-minute recording, Gibson reportedly yells at Eszterhas for not providing him with a draft of their movie collaboration, The Maccabees. He screams, "Why don't I have a first draft of The Maccabees? What the f*** have you been doing?”
In another segment of the recording, Gibson reportedly refers to his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, "as a "filthy little c***sucker who takes advantage of me!"
In 2010, a series of audio recordings capturing Gibson making profane, sexist and racist comments to Grigorieva were leaked online.
Last week, TheWrap.com published a letter written by Eszterhas in which he claimed that Gibson was involved in The Maccabees, a project about the life of Jewish warrior Judah Maccabee, in order to combat "continuing charges of anti-Semitism." Gibson has denied the allegations.
The film has since been put on hold by its studio, Warner Bros.
Early Thursday morning, TMZ reported Gibson's team is looking into his legal rights -- and into Costa Rican laws -- to see if he could sue the screenwriter for creating and releasing the secret recording that was made in Gibson's own home.
