Baylor Wins Championship, Becomes First Team to Finish 40-0
Published at(DENVER) — The Baylor women’s basketball team made history Tuesday night. It defeated Notre Dame 80-61, winning the national championship and becoming the first team in NCAA history to go 40-0.
Baylor was led by their leader, six-foot-eight Player of the Year Brittney Griner. Griner finished the game with 26 points, 13 boards and five blocked shots.
Despite her dominating performance, Griner called it a team effort.
“Everybody was a part of this win,” Griner said, “Everybody did what they needed to do. The unfinished business is done, we did it.”
Baylor dominated most of the game. Notre Dame whittled the lead to three early in the second half but couldn’t get the score any closer.
The championship is Baylor’s second in the last seven years.
