The injury occurred during Monday nights game against the Washington Nationals when Wright slid back to first base on a pickoff attempt.

Manager Terry Collins says the team will likely delay deciding whether Wright should be put on the disabled list until a hand specialist examines Wrights’ X-rays.

Wright told Collins that he would play, but Collins explained in a press conference what he told Wright.

“Your swinging to good,” Collins said. “The worst thing that can happen is you get in there and because it’s the bottom of your top hand and its pushing against your bottom hand, all of a sudden you try to change your swing, and now you go into a major slump because of it.”

A decision on whether Wright will be placed on the DL should be known by Friday.
