Schechter/NHLI via Getty Images(SUNRISE, Fla.) — New Jersey Devils rookie center Adam Henrique scored at the 3:47 mark in the second overtime, as the Devils edged the Florida Panthers 3-2, and advanced to the second round of the NHL Playoffs.

“To be able to contribute in a big situation like a Game 7 in overtime, or double overtime, that’s pretty good,” Devils’ goalie Martin Brodeur said of Henrique’s game winning goal.

Brodeur didn’t play too bad either. He made 43 saves while leading the Devils to their first playoff series win since 2007.

Although the Panthers lost, they didn’t go down without a fight. They trailed 2-0 heading into the third period, but were able to tie up the game on power-play goals from Stephen Weiss and Marcel Goc.

“I really thought we had all the momentum,” a dejected Weiss said after the game. “Marty (Brodeur) made some big saves towards the end of the third and in overtime. And that’s what happens…It takes one little shot to the net, next goal wins. It’s like when your a little kid. They got the bounce, and they’re moving on.”

The Devils move on to play the Philadelphia Flyers. The series starts Sunday at 3 PM ET in Philadelphia.
