Hulk and “The Avengers” Already Smashing Records
Published at(LOS ANGELES) — The Avengers doesn’t open officially in the U.S. until May 4, but the movie is already racking up some super-heroic box office records.
The movie opened in 42 foreign territories on Thursday, and although just a small portion of those have been calculated, Deadline.com reports the movie has already earned more than $17 million from 10 countries in just one day.
What’s more, MovieTickets.com is reporting pre-sales in the U.S. for The Avengers are over “one-and-a-half-times” more than those for Captain America, Thor, Iron Man 2, and Iron Man combined when measured from the same pre-sale date.
The site also reports that helping the bottom line is that 56 percent of Avengers pre-sales are from fans wanting to see the film in 3D. Nearly 37 percent are from moviegoers buying tickets to see the film in IMAX 3D, Deadline.com reports.
Early reviews — even from fanboys — are overwhelmingly positive. Some fans, who initially doubted the casting choice, are giving high marks to Mark Ruffalo for his portrayal of Dr. Bruce Banner and his monster alter-ego The Hulk.
Ruffalo explained at a recent press event that he had a unique inspiration for the incredibly strong Marvel hero.
“I basically based my character entirely on my 10-year-old boy, who has all of the force of nature screaming out of his body while having everyone around him telling him to fu**ing control himself,” said Ruffalo.
