(LOS ANGELES) — Lindsay Lohan is set to portray the late, legendary Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime Original Movie Liz & Dick, a film centered around the movie star’s relationship with Richard Burton, Deadline.com reports.
“I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor. She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well,” Lohan said in a statement. “I am very honored to have been asked to play this role.”
There is still no word on who will play Burton in the film, but production is set to begin in early June.
News of Lohan portraying the iconic movie star comes after her successful completion of court-mandated community service and therapy sessions, following a 2007 DUI case in Beverly Hills. Lohan remains on informal probation for a 2011 shoplifting conviction; she won’t have to return to court until May 2014.
The role of Taylor could be Lohan’s big film comeback. She returned to acting last month on the small screen, thanks to a hosting stint on NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
