Mark Cuban Not A Fan of “One And Done” In College Basketball

Michael Buckner/Getty Images for Reality Rocks(DALLAS) — Big time college players spending just one year in the collegiate ranks and then going to the NBA is all but common place these days. Even though this is allowed under the NBA rules, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban thinks it’s time for a change.
The rules state that American players must be at least 19 years old and a year out of high school before they can declare for the NBA. This is why there is usually a high number of college players who play just one season in college and then jump to the NBA. Even though NBA Commissioner David Stern and Cuban haven’t always seen eye-to-eye on issues, this is one they agree on, but Cuban wants to take it one step further. Cuban thinks players should have to spend three years in college.
“I just think there’s a lot more kids that get ruined coming out early or going to school trying to be developed to come out early than actually make it,” Cuban said. “For every Kobe (Bryant) or (Kevin) Garnett or Carmelo (Anthony) or Lebron (James), there’s 100 Lenny Cookes.”
Those players that Cuban listed came into the NBA straight out of high school before the NBA’s age limit was instituted in 2005.
