According to ESPN, Pelfrey is likely to undergo Tommy John Surgery and will miss the rest of the season.

An MRI revealed that Pelfrey had a partial tear of the elnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. Pelfrey experienced “tightness” and “grabbing” when he would throw the first pitch of every inning during his last start on Saturday. Pelfrey wasn’t overly concerned about his elbow, but a closer look revealed extensive damage.

“It’s frustrating,” Pelfrey said. “I’ve never been hurt.”

The 28-year-old Pelfrey was in his seventh season with the Mets and was off to a solid start. He was 0-0, but had an ERA of 2.29. Overall though, his career with the Mets has been considered a disappointment. He was drafted by the team ninth overall in 2005, but is 50-54 with a 4.36 ERA for his career.
