(NEW ORLEANS) — Even though the New Orleans Hornets haven’t given the fans much to cheer about on the court with their performance, they’ve received quite a share of good news since last week. First, New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson agreed to buy the team, and now there is word coming out the league that New Orleans will host the 2014 NBA All-Star Game.
The news isn’t all that surprising because getting an All-Star Game in New Orleans was part of the lease renegotiations between the NBA and the state of Louisiana. The state owns the New Orleans arena. The new lease was part of why Benson agreed to purchase the team.
The new lease includes building upgrades/renovations and the deal was that the NBA had a decade to have New Orleans host an All-Star Game.
“There is no better place to celebrate and showcase the NBA than in New Orleans, a city with a rich tradition of hosting major events that is second to none,” NBA Commissioner David Stern said.
New Orleans last hosted the All-Star Game back in 2008.
