Phillips Receives New Deal From Cincinnati
Published at(CINCINNATI) — The Reds have agreed to a new six-year contract with second baseman Brandon Phillips worth $72.5 million. The deal keeps the two-time All-Star in Cincinnati through the 2017 season.
Phillips had one year remaining on his contract at $12.5 million and would have became a free agent after this season. The new deal replaces his previous contract.
The Reds acquired Phillips from the Cleveland Indians in April 2006 for a player to be named later, which turned out to be pitcher Jeff Stevens.
He belted a career-high 30 home runs in 2007.
