Rangers’ defensemen Dan Girardi and Marc Staal scored both Rangers goals, and goalie Henrik Lundqvist made 26 saves, including stopping an onslaught of shots during the final five minutes of the game, as the Rangers held off the Ottawa Senators 2-1, and advanced to the second round of the playoffs.

“That was a hard series against a very good team,” Rangers head coach John Tortorella said. “I thought both teams went toe-to-toe in all areas of the game. Sometimes the first round is the hardest round. And that’s all this is, it’s one round. We found a way, we’re fortunate, I’m very happy with the group and they should be proud of themselves.”

The Rangers are now a perfect four for four in playoff series games at home.

The Blue Shirts will get a day of rest before starting their second round matchup with the Washington Captials Saturday.
