Sox outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury is expected to miss 6-8 weeks after at least partially dislocating his right shoulder during Boston’s game with Tampa Bay Friday, according to sources of The Boston Globe.

On April 11th of 2010, the Sox lost the Ellsbury for all but 18 games when he collided with then teammate Adrian Beltre and fractured multiple ribs.  This time Ellsbury was injured while trying to break up a double play at second base. Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia hit an easy double play ball. Ellsbury had been running on the pitch and slid into second trying to break up Rays shortstop Reid Brignac’s throw to first. Brignac ended up leaving his feet and falling on Ellsbury’s shoulder.

“I remember my butt and back landing on him, then I rolled over; it was basically on top of the bag; as soon as I landed on him, I knew something was not right,” Brignac said.

Ellsbury is coming off a season where he hit .321 with 32 home runs, 105 RBI’s, 39 stolen bases, 119 runs scored and was runner-up in the American League MVP voting.
