"The Lion King" Becomes Broadway’s Highest-Grossing Show of All Time

Disney's musical adaptation of its hit animated film has become Broadway's all-time highest-grossing show, according to Deadline.com.  The Lion King has raked in a total of $853,846,062 since opening in November 1997.

The Lion King eclipsed the previous record holder, The Phantom of the Opera, which has grossed $853,122,062 since debuting in January 1988.

Only five shows, including The Phantom of the Opera, have enjoyed longer runs on Broadway.
