GETTY B 102511 WallStreetStock? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1334871071997Hemera/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Worries about the job market kept stocks in negative territory Thursday.

The Dow Thursday closed down 69 points, the Nasdaq lost 24 and the S&P gave up 8 points.

The number of Americans who filed for unemployment in the first week of April was revised higher, which could be a sign that hiring is beginning to slow down, even with first-time claims for jobless benefits dropping by 2,000 last week.

Meanwhile, House Republicans Thursday ignored a White House veto threat and voted in favor of a $46 billion tax cut for most employers.  The bill’s not expected to get much support in the Senate.
