60 Idaho National Guardsmen Deployed to Afghanistan
(FORT HOOD, Tex.) – About 60 members of Idaho’s Air National Guard are headed to Afghanistan. After two months of training in Fort Hood, Texas, the soldiers will spend the next ten months in the Middle East. Alpha Company is the first of the 168th General Support Aviation Battalion. The airmen will support allied ground forces with eight Black Hawk helicopters in efforts to keep Afghanistan free of terrorism. Officers say their previous training in Idaho’s high altitudes will be good preparation for Afghanistan.
