NBA? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1336143426141National Basketball Association(NEW YORK) — With Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose suffering a torn ACL and Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard undergoing back surgery, Team USA needed to add players to fill out their Olympic roster. Replacing the two all-stars will be former Kentucky center Anthony Davis and Oklahoma City Thunder guard James Harden.

Team USA has been rocked by a series of injuries to some of the NBA’s best players. Along with Rose and Howard, guard Chauncey Billups and LaMarcus Aldridge will be unable to compete in the Olympic games as well. Harden and Davis will be added to a pool of players vying to represent the United States at London this summer.

“After a lot of deliberations, after reviewing our rosters, we think these two additions strengthen our National Team program immeasurably,” USA Basketball President Jerry Colangelo said. “James Harden probably is the sixth man of the year, and Anthony Davis brings a dimension to our pool we don’t have. He’s young, but it’s exciting to think about the possibilities.”

This past season, Harden averaged 16.8 points per game with the Thunder, while Davis averaged 14.3 points and 10 rebounds per game as a freshman at the University of Kentucky this past season.
