Blue Jackets Retain Richards As Head Coach

Jamie Sabau/NHLI via Getty Images(COLUMBUS, Ohio) -- The Columbus Blue Jackets and interim head coach Todd Richards agreed to a two-year contract Monday, giving Richards the job on a full-time basis. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Richards took over the reins in January when the Blue Jackets fired coach Scott Arniel. In 41 games behind the bench, Richards led Columbus to an 18-21-2 record.

“I look at head coaches in the league,” Richards said Monday. “There’s only 30 of these jobs in the world, so I am always very humble for the opportunity.”

Richards spent two seasons as head coach of the Minnesota Wild, compiling a record of 77-71-16.
