(IDAHO FALLS) – The Bonneville County Jail is about to get a lot more crowded. In an effort to alleviate overcrowding at Idaho’s state penitentiaries, the county will be taking in 100 new inmates starting June 1. With the influx of new prisoners, officials are stressing that it will not affect the county’s ability to house local inmates. The county already has 138 state prisoners housed, comprising 42 percent of the jail population. Sheriff Paul Wilde says the county will be hiring six more employees to better staff the jail.
