The team has decided that they’d rather sign him than have to keep going up against him. According to ESPN, the Patriots will sign Addai, who was a free agent after six seasons in Indy.

The now 30-year-old Addai made the Pro Bowl back in 2007 but lately he’s struggled to stay on the field because of various injuries. He missed four games last season after missing eight games in 2010. He hasn’t rushed for more than a thousand yards since he made the Pro Bowl.

This past season, he ran for 433 yards but averaged just 3.7 yards per carry and scored just one touchdown.

New England though isn’t expected to rely on Addai to carry the load in the running game. He will split carries with Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen, and Danny Woodhead.
