(DARLINGTON, S.C.) — Five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson took home the checkered flag in Saturday night’s running of the Southern 500. It’s Hendrick Motorsports 200th victory on the Sprint Cup circuit.
“My mind goes back to the early days of Hendrick Motorsports,” Johnson said. “People that won the early races, work on this early cars, help Rick build what Hendrick Motorsports is today.”
Johnson held off Denny Hamlin, Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch down the stretch to snap his 16-race winless streak.
Making her second Sprint Cup start of the year, Danica Patrick finished in 31st, six laps behind Johnson.
