(BOSTON, MA) — Could the Josh Beckett era be over in Beantown?
After last night’s brutal performance by Beckett, who gave up seven runs in 2 1/3 innings to the Indians before being pulled by manager Bobby Valentine, Boston fans voiced their displeasure, booing Beckett as he walked into the dugout.
In his last two starts, Beckett is 0-2 with a 10.00 ERA.
“I think it was directed at me,” Beckett said of the taunts from the Fenway faithful. “Smart fans.”
To top Beckett’s poor performance, Boston lost the game 8-3 and have now lost 11 of the past 12 home games this season. Word also leaked that Beckett went golfing last week, a day after he was scratched from his scheduled start thanks to a sore lat muscle in his back.
When asked about the golfing situation by a reporter, Beckett said, “I spend my off days the way I want to spend them.”
“My off day is my off day,” he continued when pressed for an answer. “We get 18 off days a year. I think we deserve a little time to ourselves.”
Beckett is now 2-4 for the season with a 5.97 ERA.
