The Kings defeated the Phoenix Coyotes 4-3 in overtime in Game 5 of their series to win the Western Conference. Dustin Penner scored the series-clinching goal for Los Angeles 17:42 into overtime. Anze Kopitar, Mike Richards, and Drew Doughty also added goals for the Kings.

“There hasn’t been much success as an organization, but we’ve got an opportunity to play for the Cup,” said Kings captain Dustin Brown. “But there’s still a lot of work to be done.”

Los Angeles won their NHL-record eighth straight road victory in the playoffs and became the first team in NHL history to go undefeated on the road and reach the Stanley Cup finals.

On their way to the Finals, the Kings knocked off number one seed Vancouver, number two seed St. Louis, and number three seed Phoenix.
