Kings Outlast Devils in Game 1 of Stanley Cup Finals
Published at(NEWARK, N.J.) — The Los Angles Kings just don’t lose on the road. For the ninth straight time this postseason, the Kings came up victorious on the road, this time beating the New Jersey Devils 2-1 in overtime of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
Kings center Anze Kopitar scored 8:13 into the overtime for the win.
“I wanted to make sure I went through the middle,” Kopitar said when describing the winning goal. “I don’t know if he heard me or not (teammate Justin Williams). I yelled for the puck and he chipped it, obviously perfect, right on my tape. It happened pretty quick, and I was able to finish it off.”
Despite now trailing 1-0 in the best-of-seven series, Devils coach Peter DeBoer is thinking positive.
“The good news is we started in the same hole against Philly, we started in the same hole against the Rangers and we responded to the situation in the right way the last two rounds…and I expect the same,” DeBoer said.
Game 2 is Saturday night in New Jersey.
